Roller Coater Week

This week has been full of ups and downs... Here's a recap:

Management opening at Gap.... UP.

Toilet got clogged.... DOWN.

Went in early to work at the bakery and cleaned the shelving (which was very much needed).... UP.

Vanessa, the full-time cake decorator called in sick.... DOWN.

I got to do the cake orders.... UP.

Couldn't figure out how to apply online for the job and ended up canceling my interview... DOWN.

Was able to mend some of my clothes.... UP.

Washed my newly mended clothes with gum.... DOWN.

Got paid.... UP.

Paid bills.... DOWN.

Decorated cakes all week.... UP.

Was thirty minutes late one day to Gap because I thought I started at 6 and not 5:30.... DOWN.

Was offered a full-time position as the cake decorator... UP.

Offer was retracted... DOWN.

In all reality, there are a lot more ups than downs. In fact I find it a bit humorous that there were so many flip flops in circumstances. At the end of the week, I'm mostly healthy (still have allergies, my hands are super dry and chapped, and I'm a bit dehydrated), I'm surrounded by people who love me, I have two jobs that I can do well, and I have food, clothing, and shelter.

Life is an adventure... and I'm along for the ride.

Tender Mercies

I decided about a month ago that I would try harder to see the tender mercies of the Lord in my life. And what a difference it has made.

I new that the registration on my car was about to expire. I was stressing out because I had just moved into my new apartment, my job at Gap wasn't quite lined up, school was supposed to start soon, and I needed to get a new windshield. I was in a crunch. I got to the point that I had decided that I would go ahead and wait a few weeks and drive around with expired plates and hope that no one would notice. On the 29th, I was getting something out of my trunk and realized that they expired at the end of SEPTEMBER and not AUGUST. (9 means September... duh). Tender mercy.

I was hoping that the crack in my windshield was close enough to pass the safety test so I went ahead and took my car to Jiffy Lube. Turns out that their safety portion was down for the day, but was able to do the emissions part and gave me a coupon for $10 off the safety. The guy did tell me that I would need to replace my windshield and gave me another coupon for $20 off a new windshield (I love coupons!). Tender mercy.

So a few weeks later, with my new windshield, safety and emissions passed, I went to go resister my car. Went to the tax commission, got my number, and waited. My time came I went to the counter. The paperwork was done, the plates where in hand, all I needed to do was pay. The lady turns to me and says, "Alright, $479.62. Credit or debit?" "Are you kidding me?" "No." It was one of those moments when you swipe your card and hope there's enough in there. I drive home and open my Quicken. Turns out that there was enough! I got paid a few days later and was able to cover my expenses for the next few weeks. Tender mercy.

Earlier this week I got to the point where it came to either putting gas in my tank or paying tithing. Gas in my car would allow me to drive to work. And it would be only a portion of my tithing. I went ahead and wrote the tithing check. The next night I was driving home and passed Beat the Bookstore. I realized that I had an account there for a textbook that I turned in about a month ago and that I could now cash that out. The $30 was enough to cover my gas. Tender mercy.

Last week we were able to go to the courthouse and witness an adoption. Steve's sister remarried this past February and her new husband was adopting her two little girls. (Of course I sobbed through the entire thing.) Tender mercy.

I talked to my mom last week and she shared a story about how she and Lisa were looking for Lisa's lost contact in the field at the Junior High. They were able to find it after a little prayer. Tender mercy.

It has been marvelous how my eyes have been opened (if only to the squink stage) but I have been so grateful for the tender mercies in my life and in the lives of those around us.

The Latest and Greatest (for the two of you that follow)

Greetings... from UTAH!

Tis true... I moved to Utah the beginning of August to head back to school. To make a long story short, school didn't quite work out. But I'm living in a great apartment (behind Wal-mart in Orem) with two great jobs (cake decorator in the morning, Gap-er at night) and an amazing boyfriend to occupy most of my free time. I love the ward that I'm in. I love the fact that I'm back and close to my family and friends. Since being back I have attended two baby blessings, five or six soccer games, three big family dinners, and a trip to Logan. I feel like I'm back home and I'm so grateful for the wonderful things that I have been blessed with.

His name is Steve, by the way...

It's beginning to look a lot like....

CHRISTMAS!

Autumn Festivities...

This past Tuesday I had teh day off of work so I decided to have my Autumn celebration day... The day consisted of going to the pumpin patch, picking out 3 pumkins and a gourd, sipping hot cider, eating a spiced donut, going to a haunted house, carving the pumkins, and roasting the pumpkin seeds. Here are some pics to document the evening!

I have a car!

So over 3 weeks ago, I was involved in a hit-and-run... I was the victim. We were able to follow him and obtain his license plate number and call the police with his location so he ended up being apprehended. The driver was a drunk illegal immiagrant who happened to have insurance...? Anyway, so my car is not drivable (the alignment is way off and there is something off about the steering column) and it took the insurance company 3 weeks to approve a rental for me. Needless to say it was a headache... Between trying to find rides/cars to borrow for work, church, and doctor's appointments, I was thrilled to have my own wheels! And it's a nice one too! A 2009 Corolla... with only 500 miles on it. :D
